Results & Achievements

Highland Weightlifting Club has established itself as one of Scotland’s most successful weightlifting clubs in a remarkably short time. Our members compete across youth, senior and masters categories at local, national and international level.

 
2023 Season Highlights

It was a landmark year for the club. HWC members collectively won:

•      3 British Championship titles

•      9 Scottish Championship titles

•      A 6th place finish at the World Masters Championships in Poland

The successes spanned the full range of our membership, from junior lifters competing at national level for the first time through to masters athletes on the international stage.

Notable Individual Achievements

  • Nicki Grant — Head Coach and competitor. Scottish Senior Silver Medallist. Coach to Team Scotland at the Celtic Nations Weightlifting Competition and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
  • Steve Walsh — Club Chairman. Multi-time Scottish Masters Weightlifting Champion, winning his title in consecutive years.
  • Ava Walsh — Scottish University Weightlifting Champion (Under-64kg category), lifting a combined total of 131kg in the snatch and clean & jerk.
  • Patrick Johnson — Scottish Junior Weightlifting Champion.
  • Mischa Allan — Scottish Junior Weightlifting Champion.
  • Calum Low — Scottish Junior Weightlifting Champion.

Northern Districts Weightlifting Championships

HWC has been the driving force behind establishing competitive weightlifting in the north of Scotland. We organise the Northern Districts Weightlifting Championships in association with Weightlifting Scotland, held annually at Inverness Leisure. The competition has grown each year, attracting a record number of competitors in 2024 and regularly drawing participants from across the Highlands and beyond.
